[ILUG] good editor with syntax highlighting fo beginners ?

Hmm - if this poor luser can barely cope with notepad, one has to wonder
what syntax s/he might possibly be able to understand that s/he'd need
highlighting ? 

Apologies for my cynicism - all this "Country brought to a standstill" over
a light dusting of snow is making me gag :-)
