Intel wrote their own driver for that series of chipsets called e100. 
Source is available for download somewhere on their site. I think both 
RedHat 7 and Mandrake 7.2 come with a precompiled e100.o (and 3COM's own 
3c90x.o) but neither will attempt to use it by default.
