I have a E220R and I use a tip connection from another Solaris box. Some
time ago I installed a Null Modem on the box on ttyb (same Physical
connection). This broke my tip connection. I did not dare do a reboot at
the time as I had no serial console so I do not know if this would have
simulate your problem.

In the Open Boot Collection 3.0 on docs.sun.com there is a reference to
why tip connections will not work on ttya if ttyb is enabled in a
certain manner. Maybe the installation of Powerchute has changed the
configuration for ttya in some way as to require a console to be
physically there at boot ?? Might be worth a look
