Ah, but there are Intellimouses and there are Intellimouses.

Are you using XFree86 4.x or 3.x?
Is it a PS/2 Intellimouse, a serial Intellimouse, or a USB
Intellimouse?

Have a look at XF86Config - the mouse section ("Pointer" for XFree86
3, "InputDevice" -> "mouse" for Xfree86 4).

The Protocol should be IMPS/2 for a PS/2 Intellimouse, or
"IntelliMouse" for a serial one.  The Intellimouse Explorer (four
buttons and a wheel) can be set up as a "NetMousePS/2".

Answer the questions above, and I'll see if I can provide a more
precise XF86Config section.
