Look at ~cdrecord/README.ATAPI
Short version: It's really a SCSI device wearing a silly hat. Treat it
as such. There's a world of "Do you reject IDE and all it's works"
stuff going on in there. It's at times like these I'm glad I modularise
as much as possible, as it allows me to rmmod ide-cd ; modprobe sg ....
