Just a guess, but would putting
cd/some/dir
at the end of your .bashrc or .login do the trick?

On 11-Jul-2001 the words of Eamonn Shinners did resemble :
Hi guys,
is it possible to set the starting point after login to somewhere other
than
the users home directory, and if so, what needs to be edited. I've had a
quick look at the .bashrc and .bash_profile files, but it would seem to be
not them.
