Hi,
My messages file is filling up happily with messages like
Jul 11 02:27:53 bagend kernel: ATAPI device hdd:
Jul 11 02:27:53 bagend kernel: Error: Illegal request -- (Sense key=0x05)
Jul 11 02:27:53 bagend kernel: Cannot read medium - incompatible format -- (asc=0x30, ascq=0x02)
Jul 11 02:27:53 bagend kernel: The failed "Read Subchannel" packet command was:
Jul 11 02:27:53 bagend kernel: "42 02 40 01 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 "
Jul 11 02:27:54 bagend kernel: hdd: packet command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Jul 11 02:27:54 bagend kernel: hdd: packet command error: error=0x54
yet I never notice any operational errors using the drive. I suspect that
they mainly occur when I have the SuSE 7.1 DVD in the drive, and I know that
there has been a huge amount of them generated when the DVD was not in use
and AFAIR not even mounted (my curiosity was piqued when there was a
continuous rattle from a disk drive when there should have been no activity
- it was the messages file being written). Any ideas ?
Regards,
Niall
