[ILUG] desktop switching and stuff

[ILUG] desktop switching and stuff

McAuley, Tim T.McAuley at emuse.ie
Mon Jul 16 11:39:12 IST 2001

Hi all,

Thanks for all the replies from my rant on Saturday.

Just to clarify, I was only trying to change the default desktop for the
whole system (i.e. everyone). I know how to change default desktop for a
single user (either change it at the gdm prompt, or use switchdesk).

My grievance was really with RH, in that the references I found to change
the desktop for the system was pointing to the sysconfig/desktop file... and
this didn't work, it broke everything. I just found that a little silly.

Anyone... thanks!

Tim

PS..

1- the "desktop" file originally had
DESKTOP="GNOME", hence the reason I only changed the GNOME bit.

2 - I had the CD writer working, and I can copy audio CDs (I wasn't very
clear on that). It's just XCD-Roast doesn't have the feature yet to write,
say MP3s, from disk to CD yet. Don't worry... all I have to do is install
another front-end program for doing that. All the lowlevel tools are
installed and working AFAIK.
