Is there such a thing as a howto that takes the newbie (namely me !) through
the required steps to install and configure a basic firewall system from
what modules to install, to how to configure ppp demand dialing.. etc etc.
I've tackled each of these step over the past few months, but never actually
on got the whole thing working together !
- It took me an hour last night to get my eth0 configured on a new install
(too much messing with the last one, and my old memory aint what it used to
be !)
.. or... should I just write one as I get all the bits and pieces working ?
Ideally, what scone-heads like me need is :
Step 1 : Put the CD into the drive
Step 2 : Put the boot disk into the floppy drive
Step 3 : Switch on the machine
Step 4 : Install the following modules ... a,b,c,d ..
Step 5 : Add support for the network card by doing .....
.... etc
Well, not quite that level, but you know what I mean !
Its kinda emabrassing, as I've had so much help from this list in the past 6
moths or so, but now that I actually need to get it live, I cant remember it
all ! )and I only have 1749 mails in my ilug folder ... and thats the
interesting ones !!
Any suggestions, or is it a case of RTFM the firewall-howto, the
ethernet-howto, the diald-howto .. etc etc etc ?
