Regarding places that will take goods back if they don't work with Linux,
Marx computers have a fairly generous policy in that regard... I was told
that as long as the goods were still as new, and the packaging was intact
(meaning i did not tear the box open like a child at christmas, it was ok to
remove shrink wrap and open the pack!), i could return them within a couple
of days for a refund if they did not work with linux.
I didn't have to put this to the test, all my purchases have been
successful, but it was nice to have the security... and credit where credit
is due. I had also researched as far as possible to check that the equipment
would work, and i think that is only fair to any retailer.
(I don't work for marx computers or get paid by them, in case anyone was
wondering.)
