cd /usr/src/linux
for BLAH in `seq 1 4` ; do
	make dep
	make clean
	make MAKE="make -j4" -j4 bzImage
	make MAKE="make -j4" -j4 modules
done

if it survives that, it'll survive just about anything.

If you're worried about memory, get a copy of memtest (somewhere on sgi).
