[ILUG] [OT] Want to buy a NIC ?

[ILUG] [OT] Want to buy a NIC ?

I just got a quote for some Sun kit. Of course you expect to pay through the
nose for their kit, but I was absolutely flabbergasted to see as a line item

X1033A INT PCI 10/100BASET NIC IR£756.06

That is definitely nice work if you can get it :-)

Sun recently announced sub $1000 workstations which presumably have built in
networking so I've just thought of an expansion to Sun's marketing slogan

from "The Network Is The Computer" to

"The Network Is The Computer So Buy The Network And Get The Computer Free"

Sorry - I couldn't help it :-)

Niall

P.S. I just had a thought - the box is a an E420 which is a mid sized
server, price in the region of IR£30K and its network card costs ~IR£750.
That corresponds to a PC costing IR£1K with a network card costing IR£15
which is about right. Have I discovered the secret of Sun's pricing policy ?
Anyone had a recent quote for an E10K ? If so, how much was the network card ?
