I recently did the same thing for my old secondary school
1. DHCP server
2. Web proxy using wwwoffle
3. Webmail server using neomail
4. mail server using qmail (This required a registered domain and some tricks) Talk to www.bayridge.ie, they provide the mail queueing service for us. It is a great solution that saved us about £2k in annual fees.
5. I didn't implement SAMBA for the file server as they already had a PC doing that running NT Server (and I didn't want to get involved in supporting that)
I have the scripts for creating hundreds of accounts and passwords
(I needed 750 accounts) and I used Mandrake 7.1
I used an ISDN card in the PC which I got for free (somewhere)
This did the dialup for access for the rest of the Win95 PCs
(about 30 others)
The proxy can be slow when they are all surfing different sites at the same time.
It works really well (apart from when the power was switched off)
