let's say you're in dir /usr/lib and you cd to /etc/httpd. you do whatever
you need to do there and then want to go back to /usr/lib. instead of
typing
cd /usr/lib
just type
cd -
that will bring you back to the last dir you were in. those of you
familiar with popd/pushd in tcsh and bash will recognise this as a
poor man's popd (it only maintains a single entry stack).
as an aside this might be confusing for vms users who are used to
set directory [-]
which is the same as
cd ..
in unix. but vms is dead, so who cares? :)
