i added the ogg-vorbis rpm's to my helix-gnome system.
pretty simple, just go to www.vorbis.com and get the rpms:
libao
libogg
libvorbis
vorbis-tools
xmms-vorbis
you need to use --replacefiles when installing xmms-vorbis as it confilcts
with the xmms package as distributed by ximian.
i'm ripping a cd i've ripped previously as an mp3 so i have a comparison,
but on the whole grip and xmms work quite smoothly. the deskguide-applet
works a little squirrely, but that's another matter.
ok, "don't fear the reaper" by blue oyster cult:
4417416 - dont_fear_the_reaper.ogg - variable 106- 133kbps
4937346 - dont_fear_the_reaper.mp3 - 128kbps
the sound seems fine (not that i'm an audiofile) for both. the cpu load
seems a touch higher for the ogg decoding, but not by much.
