I wouldn't really call a rtl8139 bog standard. Its one of those chips
that has been jiggled around by too many manufacturers:) The rtl8139.o
module has never been very good IMHO, not with some of the genius cards
we have in one or two CSN machines. However, the 8139too.o module was
backported from 2.3.* to 2.2.18 and its far superior. The 2.4 driver is
still better though.
