[ILUG] quake3 & SMP ?

[ILUG] quake3 & SMP ?

Is SMP really faster than single cpu....???

---------
Eh, yeah!

I have a dual celery 400, and a single cpu 500 on another machine, the
difference is MEGA on the celery! Q3 rocks on the celery, highly
recommended. Warning, Warning, do not play it on a wall projector unless you
have a NO FEAR sticker on your car window. I was just too fast and we had to
stop (kinda like the old VR goggles - anyone remember those?)

In fact, its faster then the 500 (runs BillG$2000) with the voodoo5 64MB!
when compared to the dual celery 400 with 2 voodoo2's in SLI, OK the
graphics are better on the v5 but not enough to make me play on the v5. I
prefer the crazy framerates. Does anyone remeber the command for timedemo to
get the exact FPS?
BP6 (Mamabear) = 1600+ Bogomips baby. Not bad for a REALLY cheap chip, if
you get your hands on some 366Mhz models, you can over clock to 1Ghz (with
some fishtanks and craziness) - check out http://www.bp6.com

50% increase - not sure exactly but I need to measure this, and this would
be better on a dual pci bus system. My BP6 only has one PCI bus, but it
still rocks.
I have deliberately installed extra services on the BP6 to slow it down a
little! No joke, it now runs squid - 16 MB RAM dedicated and 2.5GB cache
(little extreme for nolimits) named (even though I already have a DNS
server)

I was not aware that all Loki Games are multi-threaded. Obviously this is
why they seem faster than when run on $$$$$$$. I always put it down to me
loving linux and hating windows. God I love when someone comes over and
windows crashes.

Regards,
CW
