ok, from the ftpaccess man page (as opposed to the ftpd man page that
i had been reading - but it's important, read on) i find the virtual
blah options.  these are nifty.  using this i can set up ftp servers by
incoming ip address.

using xinetd i limit ftp to a single aliased ftp address.

in order for ftpd to even *read* the ftpaccess file you need to give
it the -a flag.  and set "timeout RFC931 0" in ftpaccess and don'y use
USERID on the log_on_success, log_on_failure options in xinetd.

grumble.
