Dave, you better get that Flamethrower up to Co. Louth ASAP!

******************BAD NEWS**************************
Foot-and-mouth hits Republic

Foot-and-mouth disease has spread to the Republic.

Two cases of foot-and mouth were confirmed at a farm at Jenkinstown in Co
Louth today.

Test results from two sheep showed symptoms of the disease.

A sheep showing possible signs of the virus was detected on Tuesday night at
the farm, which is situated just two miles from the location in Co Armagh
where the island's only case of the disease was detected last month.

After the Armagh development, a stringent set of controls was introduced in
a desperate and now in vain attempt to keep out foot-and-mouth.

The Taoiseach said in a statement to the Dail in the last few minutes that
he is very disappointed at the news.

The confirmation of the disease has serious implications for Ireland's
booming economy.
