Markus,

I have not checked out the database accesss properly: I have not got MySql set up anywhere, and I briefly tried setting up InterBase (which comes with it) without success. I didn't like the reference in the docs to having to use the same version software on the client side and the server side, sounds like trouble for the future.

At the moment, I am front-ending bind and it is very painless if you are used to Delphi or CBuilder. It is typical of needs I have - by the time I go back to bind (or Linux for that matter), I've forgotten most of what I knew. It's a fundamental flaw with Linux: if it keeled over as often as Windows, I'd have no problems, since I would have regular experience of setting up bind.

Ciaran

So, it is pretty good then?
What's about database connectivity - could you test any?

Markus

Someone asked about Kylix a few days ago.

For what it's worth, I have been using Kylix for nearly a week. It seems
very stable and it's imitation of Delphi is frighteningly exact. Most of my
Delphi classes ported fine. It even makes porting "console applications"
easy, and debugging is much simpler. I did manage to blow it up copying and
pasting DOS text to Linux, but Borland seem intent on sorting that out.
