[ILUG] Downgrading X

[ILUG] Downgrading X

Sorry if this appears to be a dumb question:
Recently installed mandrake 8.0 which installs XFree86 4.03 by default.
Anyway, my aging S3 Virge video
card seems to output a little snow to the screen when using this (was fine
with 3.3.3). Tried the various fixes in the man page to no effect. So, I
want to downgrade to X 3.3.6. RPM's are installed and I can's quite figure
out how to remove/stop X 4.03 without breaking everything (and yes I've
used DrakConf, xf86config, xf86cfg etc. by it still starts X4.03). Any
thoughts?
