That's bizarre - I mean, if you had somewhere to plug it in, surely it
supports the bloody thing :-) And IDE/ATA was more or less a Compaq
innovation (certainly it was where I first saw IDE drives, to my great
surprise, because there appeared to be a cable missing !)

That would have been a good idea - SuSE patched kernels tend to work nicely
e.g. ReiserFS working with NFS, up to date I4L support etc.

On what basis do you make exceptions, exactly ? 

I really have very little time for vendor certification, since the days when
I worked for Ireland's largest supplier of Novell Netware. Most of their
"fscking little boys in Escorts" (as an old Sun support engineer
acquaintance of mine used call them) were CNEs (Certified Netware Engineer -
this was AFAIR the first industry certification, and was highly regarded)
and frankly, most of them were clueless. You passed the CNE exams by
attending the course and studying the manuals, and previous knowledge was
actually a negative thing, because if you didn't give the Novell answer . .
. and frankly, some of what they said was just plain wrong. And don't get me
started on MSCE certification :-)

That said, I'm sort of thinking about doing the LPI exams, just because . .
