Ok, a .Xdefaults works for an xterm but not for a gnome-terminal. A gnome
term returns "xterm" in $TERM but that doesn't necessarily indicate what
termcap entry it's using. Tried restarting gnome in case the gnome term
didn't check the .Xdefaults each time but no difference. Just occurred to
me though, gnome-terminal can use a single server for multiple terms and
maybe all terms needed to be gone before logout or something like that.
Does gnome-terminal use a termcap entry? and if so, which?
