[ILUG] List mailer errors

[ILUG] List mailer errors

Niall O Broin niall at linux.ie
Thu May 17 19:54:15 IST 2001

This afternoon I tried to send to mails to the list both of which got
bounced with the following error messages:

The attached message had PERMANENT fatal delivery errors!

After one or more unsuccessful delivery attempts the attached message has
been removed from the mail queue on this server. The number and frequency
of delivery attempts are determined by local configuration parameters.

YOUR MESSAGE WAS NOT DELIVERED!

What happened here ? That is, I know what happened - mail.iol.ie's SMTP
process couldn't fork, but why did I get notified of it ? I don't have a
great understanding of list server software, but I would have thought that
when a mail from a list server gets bounced for whatever reason, it should
just get thrown, or do SMTP servers in general not respect

Precedence:bulk

indicators ? Actually, it probably never even saw that.

It's no biggie - the mails got to the list, so I'm just curious as to why I
get these errors. What is nuvotem.iol.ie - is it a mailer used by tuatha or
what ?

Niall
