[ILUG] NICs and Gateways/Routers.

Howya,

We have had a P200 doing ipmasq + squid here for over a year. It was
running 2.2.14. Only problem was, it had this awful tendency to crash
completely once every 3 weeks. All I could see in there was the some Tx
error 90s in dmesg. Googleing for it I found it was a bug in the NIC driver
(they are 2 3Com Vortex).

Thought it was easy enough and updated the kernel to 2.2.19. The crashes
are less frequent now, although I still get loads of:

eth0: Transmit error, Tx status register 90.
eth0: Transmit error, Tx status register 90.

Weirdest part is that they don't coincide with the crashes anymore.
Anyways, my point is: Can anyone recommend a good combination of Kernel +
NIC for this kind of task?

Also, the box is talking to 2 dual hubs. Would it be ok to force
100mbit/s and full-duplex?

   Thanks in advance,

Ricardo
