[ILUG] Mandrake 8

[ILUG] Mandrake 8

Alan Smith asmith at intuition.com

This one is a bit weird. Mandrake 8 seems to install fine on a Dell
Dimension XPS T500. However, when I reboot I get the GUI screen that shows
the boot progress. The machine hangs on that screen showing "Current State:
Multi-User Starting X font Server". If I hit Alt-F1 I see "Booting
Aurora....." The machine sits there for at least 30 minutes and does
nothing else.

I had originally chosen the XF86 v4 option. I re-installed and chose the v3
option but it made no difference. With a bit of fiddling I can log in on a
virtual terminal and access /var/log . There does not seem to be any thing
wrong in syslog or messages , but I could be wrong. Any bright ideas??

Regards & Thanks,

Alan Smith.
