[ILUG] RedHat PPP dialler mystery

[ILUG] RedHat PPP dialler mystery

Dave Neary dneary at eircom.net
Tue May 29 21:42:53 IST 2001

Hi all,

Now that I'm actually at home, I have an update that may interest
some of you and give more info on the little problem I've been
happing with the RedHat PPP dialler in GNOME.

The relevant sections of /var/log/messages are below - at the end
I get IP addresses, etc. I've just noticed that the first time it
has two lines in the initial call to ifup-ppp - namely...
May 28 21:50:18 localhost kernel: PPP: version 2.3.7 (demand
dialling)
May 28 21:50:18 localhost kernel: PPP line discipline registered.

Anyone know if that'd make a difference? I've also noticed that
wvDial isn't used at all by the KDE dialler, which implies that
this is a problem with wvDial only. The only other difference is
that when Anne starts pppd, it's started by the user anne. When I
start it, it's started (via ifup-ppp) by root.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Dave.

Ps. The relevant section (to prove I'm not mad) in /var/log/messages
is below...
