 Try to ping 127.0.0.1, this is the loopback device. If you get a reply
 then it work and you have your tcp/ip networking. If it doesn't work
 then you need to run something like:

 ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1 up

 If this fails then you need to reconfigure the kernel to enable network
 loopback (or something like that) in the network options section.
