[ILUG] ireland offline 'strike'

[ILUG] ireland offline 'strike'

I haven't been hugely impressed by irelandoffline but I don't think they've
had much impact on the ADSL rollout. The fact that Eircom have not to
justfied their wholesale prices to the satisfaction of the ODTR is what's
holding things up and the ODTR is right to stop them launching without
giving competitors any chance.

Eircom are to blame for the delay and I'd guess they're only too happy to
see it delayed. It gives them more time to flog the "hi-speed" dead horse
and keep raking it in on leased lines.

<daydream>
When the arse fell out of the Eircom shares it would have been cool if the
government had bought back the local loop. Eircom would have been just
another operator renting cabinets. The govt could have used some of that
infrastructure grant money (the millions that were going to go into private
projects that have now been shelved) to bring real connectivity to consumers
instead of yet another stretch of fibre that we'll never see either end of.
