I just looked in the resolve.conf file and it has the domain name and the
two nameserver addresses in there.

Aparently a number of people have been having problems with linuxconf.

Try editing /etc/resolv.conf it should look like:

search ucd.ie
nameserver 137.43.1.13

where your domain is ucd.ie and yor dns server is 137.43.1.13.

The restart networking by 

/etc/rc.d/init.d/networking restart

(that might be network not networking I don't know cos I don't use RH).
