My p200MMX had 256 till recently, ran no bother. SDRAM PC133. Even
though the box only supports pc100. Ran for almost a year then died.

I had a DELL P166MMX that took SDRAM, but it couldn't see
more than 64MB of it. (I had one 32MB chip and one 128MB
chip in the machine). So basically, unless
you provide more information (motherboard chipset, exact
memory type etc) it's hard to answer your questions...
Also be aware that older 72 pin memory may not be as cheap
as modern stuff which is being produced in large quantities.
Upgrading the machine may be a waste of money.
