Given the failure of ireland.com to really capitalise on its content by
adding subscription services for simple things like archives, hiring
Mangan was probably one of the worst decisions that ireland.com made.
(this would be better covered on the Open list [1]) The decision by
ireland.com to charge $25 (I think) per annum for @ireland.com e-mail
services was very poorly handled and only served to alienate a lot of
people.
The statement about Online.ie being in a position to take over most of
ireland.com's business is interesting. It hasn't really done so to date
but it certainly is in a position to do so if ireland.com makes any more
strategic blunders. However Online.ie has made a few mistakes as well and
it looked like a standard bit of PR rather than any statement of intent.
