That may well be the case in a number of third level colleges, but in
Athlone IT, we use Linux for
a) teaching courses on Operating Systesm and System Administration
b) teaching Human-Computer Interfaces (X Windows programming)
c) essential services including the firewall, web server and soon
student web mail facilities.
