Sigh. I wish all these vi-alikes could agree on some sort of common ground
and not try to be emacs (what is WITH this multiple frame, mouse support
malarkey?). On some arbitray version of vi on some arbitrary machine I have
access to, vi -a does a binary edit. That's -a for binary, see?

On that note, does anyone know how to persuade elvis, as installed on debian,
to behave more like vi in that:
* Searching does not put me into some sort of mode that I have to hit ESC to
  get out of
* I get no colour highlighting, ever
* ESC is absolute, not a toggle, so that hitting it *the correct number of
  times* is not necessary
