As a sort of intermediate between the opaque gui lump of linuxconf, and the 
slog of manually editing links under rc.d,  RH and mandrake at least have an 
sbin command "chkconfig" that is very easy, and a command "service" that 
saves you typing a few slashes and periods to stop/start daemons.
