Have you upgraded modutils?
Check out the packages that are required for 2.4.x

Right. On a RH6.2 box, orig kernel 2.2.14, decided to send it up to 2.4.6,
because I had it on a mag CD, and I need it for some stuff. I configured it,
compiled it, and it booted. Then I reconfigured it, specifically some
parport
and SCSI stuff (for a zip drive) and APM (it's a laptop), and now it hangs
just
before running init, just after clearning out unused kernel memory. I've
tried
playing about with APM settings, SMP stuff, etc. No joy.
I'm about to re-visit the kernel HOWTO. Any other pointers? or am I being
stupid?
