Yeah, its development seems to have stopped lately. Which is a pity.
I'm using KLyX at the mo to write a Thesis and it's very user friendly. I
didn't have the time to learn proper LateX, but I will eventually.
There's a nice package available for LateX which allows you to do raw LateX
but also includes some WYSIWYG - it runs under KDE and is called KTexmaker:
