Exactly right. For MS-DOS, I recommend good ol'Telix.
http://linuxmafia.com/pub/ms-dos/ has a copy. Of course, you'll also
make sure you know the COM port of the alleged modem, and, if that COM
port is particularly wacky, its IRQ and I/O base address.
