BTW it could be the proxy, or even KMail, being smart; for security, you
really *don't* want your mail messages to load images or other embedded
content over the network.

Consider a HTML spam mail containing this image:

    <img src=http://www.spamgits.com/confirmaddr.cgi?jason@corcoran.tc>

oh look, they've just received verification that <jason at corcoran.tc> is a
valid address, which someone reads regularly.  Hey presto, that address
goes on their next CD-ROM of "GUARANTEED VALID E-MAIL ADDRESSES FOR MAILS
ABOUT PENIS ENLARGEMENT AND HOT TEENS".  doh! ;)
