Though with the the third world comms system due to Eircom, 400kbit/sec is
a lot faster than a dialup when it works. EuropeOnline multicast will
nominally give 2 Mb/s when it works. I managed to download the complete
Mandrake 8.1 distro in this manner though EON is seriously fscked up and
badly adminned. Browsing through EON is impossible due to congestion and a
generally fscked up noc.
Satellite is not viable for gaming and the alternative is to pay Eircom
for dialup/ISDN. With any luck, WiFi will destroy Eircom's operation and
give us all good pings so we can go forth and kick ass. :-)
