[ILUG] BASH confusion

[ILUG] BASH confusion

Hi all,

I'm getting very confused. When I ssh into one of our machines it
gives me the vi command editing behaviour. I had presumed that this was
being set in

~/.bash_profile
~/.bashrc

or something similar. So I went through them and found nothing.
I've now added

set -o emacs

to both me .bashrc and .bash_profile files and however when I get to the
command line, for whatever reason always:

bash-2.03$ set -o
<snip>
emacs on
vi off

I even put a set -o command in the .bash_profile and made sure it
sucecssfully changes the variable. But it getschanged back again. Can
someone tell me what other scripts could be run in the meantime or if
perhaps I'm setting this in the wrong way and it's lost when the script
exits or something.

Gavin
