Hi all,
Two questions - first, does anyone know where I could buy a 20GB+
IDE hard drive in Dublin (City centre) for £100? Second hand, and
fairly new, would be OK.
Second question - on my install at home I've messed up rpm very
badly. I can't recall exactly when it happenned, but it may have
been when I installed rpm4 from source (I've got a RedHat 6.0
machine which has been patched up to ~ RH 7). Symptoms follow...
[root at localhost /root]# rpm -q kernel
[root at localhost /root]# rpm --rebuilddb
[root at localhost /root]# rpm -Uvh
~dave/downloads/mozilla-0.9.5-0.i386.rpm
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm
[root at localhost /root]# ls -l /var/lib/rpm/
total 18620
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 16384 Jul 20 20:46 conflictsindex.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6119424 Jul 20 20:46 fileindex.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 16384 Jul 20 20:46 groupindex.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 28672 Jul 20 20:46 nameindex.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 12946760 Jul 20 20:46 packages.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 90112 Jul 20 20:46 providesindex.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 98304 Jul 20 20:46 requiredby.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 16384 Jul 20 20:46 triggerindex.rpm
[root at localhost /root]# ls -l /bin/rpm
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3268530 Jul 20 20:53 /bin/rpm
So basically rpm doesn't seem to find any existing packages, and
can't install new packages. I've installed rpm4 from source, if
this is any help (couldn't find the rpm3 installable rpm4
package). Does anyone have any insights into how to get this
working properly?
Cheers,
Dave.
