I may be wrong here and please someone correct me if I am, but we don't
have this problem presumably because ide cdrom is modular and not loaded
automatically.

Then nothing grabs it and you load the modules you want depending on
whether you want it as IDE os IDE-SCSI.  Yes, Rick, we know, get a SCSI
CDRW from the start and we wouldn't have this problem ;).
