What an idiot! Part of the point of the whole thing is that it was done on
a domestic US flight due to the fact that security is tight on
international flights but is *very* lax on domestics.
The Clinton administration ordered a study of airport security about 4
years ago. It came out with major recommendations about how it needed
upgrading. These were implemented by the international flight companies
but the domestics refused on the basis that it would slow down there system
and add to the cost too much. The Clinton Administration (in hindsight
rather unfortunately) backed down and let them go on. Since then it has
been well known that the domestic flights were basically as secure as IIS
(just to bring us on-topic) comparaitvely to international.
This is up there with the NRAs answer to schoolyard shootings, which was
IIRC "arm the teachers".
