[ILUG] MPlayer...

Hi all,
just downloaded unofficial debian packages for a CVS snapshot of
MPlayer. It's really superb it must be said. THere's still a few
problems, I noticed sound getting out of sync with video sometimes (for
which there are hotkeys to fix it by hand during playing) and a couple of
other small things, but otherwise it's really superb.

The site for the debians for anyone interested is:

http://marillat.free.fr/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/

I know a lot of people regard an office equivalent as a serious necessity for
linux to be successful on the desktop. Not sure about that myself, but I
certainly regard an easy to use, good quality media player which will play
asf and all (or most of) the other proprietary formats as a very important
step. This is a big step.

One question. There was a recent question as to whether Quicktime
stuff could be played on linux ever and many sid no cos "the codecs were
totally proprietary" (sorry if i got this wrong). However, MPlayer appears
to take windows codecs in the form of compiled dlls etc. Does this mean it
could take the codec for QT from windows and play quicktime or not? Sorry
I may have the wrong end of the stick, but I was just wondering.

Gavin
