[ILUG] recording audio

[ILUG] recording audio

Or should I say "Failing to record audio"?

I'm trying to record from a tape deck hooked up to the sound card
(SB AWE32). I'm using

/usr/bin/rec -d /dev/audio -f a -s w -r 44100 -c 2 kipper.wav

which spawns sox like this:

sox -t ossdsp /dev/audio -a -w -r 44100 -c 2 kipper.wav

The tape plays back through the sound card, I can control the playback
volume with gmix on the "line in" channel but I get only hiss in the wav
file (which grows properly while sox is running). Can anyone point me to
a suitable sox line (or other proggie) to record audio? I've already
tried grecord which produces no output.

Conor
