[ILUG] XFree86 4.1.0 and kernel 2.4.9 probs

[ILUG] XFree86 4.1.0 and kernel 2.4.9 probs

Hey,

I'm having a couple of problems since compiling both kernel 2.4.9
and XFree86 4.1.0 last night.

First, the XFree86 compile isn't loading X properly at all. All I
get is a screen full of graphical jumble and it stops loading there.
I've tried recompiling a couple of times and also compiled all the
new gnome and sawfish packages but to no avail. I run the compile and
set everything up properly but I still get the screen of garble.

Also, since compiling 2.4.9 last night I can't access my cdrom. It
gives me an error message something like ide_proc_dma fault (I can't
check now because it hangs the machine).

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve these problems.

Cheers.

John.
