4KB / sec is about right for a good connection on a 56kbps modem ...
figure 48000bits per second on a good connection
48000 / 8 = 6000 bytes per second
6000 / 1024 = 5.85 Kilobytes per second
if you take account for overheads in the protocols etc 4KB is respectable
enough !
