[ILUG] Mini USB Drives

[ILUG] Mini USB Drives

Compact Flash memory emulates an ATA disk. Combined with a USB
Reader/Writer which works in Linux [1] and/or a PCMCIA adapter this
provides an excellent and relatively cheap mobile storage medium.

I was unable (as of a month or two ago) to find a USB SmartMedia
reader/writer which will work under linux.

[1] SanDisk have one, detailed at
http://www.sandisk.com/consumer/im.asp The serial number of the one
which works under linux begins with SDDR-31
Due to time constraints I haven't had time to check it out under
linux, but it supposedly works perfectly with the usb-storage driver.
Also see http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdv.php3?id=198 for peoples
experiences with it (linked from www.linux-usb.org)

[2] FWIW, I found a European supplier InternetCamerasDirect
http://www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk/acatalog/icd_card_readers_and_flashpath_adapters_55.html
It's likely that others are supplying this too - this is just where I
got mine.

hope this helps someone.
Alan.
