For the web dev posse,
Seeing as linux is a popular hosting enviroment how about raiding
sourceforge for Content management systes, time management systems and the
like all to display how cool linux and the web enables office is? Use
mozilla or pref Opera as the browser or indeed the windows boxes as the
client browsers and tell them that LINUX is ideal for internet connectivity
and security while you still have the reception using office.
Speaking of office, Star office the big bloat or else open office. Perhaps
run snort with snort snarf to impress the security concious and iptables
with ipchains with the Dsheild stuff so it can auto do stuff ;-)
MYSQL has to be a must please please ;-) Pehaps we could do a demo Hacker
attack using linux onto a windows box?
Picture the secne lone guy with penguin walks into RDS with laptop running
linux. Asks when there are loads of ppl around could he use their net
connect to help savew his ass as netrwork at work is down. Linux.ie agree
and provide a net connection. Windows server on the linux.ie stand starts to
crunch and grind and finally blow up injuring several M$ employees who were
taking the piss oput of linux. Meanwhile the same attacks are performed on
the reliable linux box with not a bother, in fact the linux box detects the
attack takes counter measure and calls in a squad of f14's to take out would
be hacker ;-) Okay a little far fetched but the dram would be fun and could
get a lot of attention.
As a side note being trying to get in touch with R.Newman. I told him he
could have my baby dell c800 with 500 MB 16 Mb Ati card and 30 G hard drive
with REdhat 7.2 and windoze (always wanted to speel it that way) for the
expo if he or anyone responsible would like it. (Great for above demo ;-)

Subject: [ILUG] ICT Expo Suggestions
Hi All,
I have a nice little (not!) box beside me here which I have managed to
borrow for the ILUG stand at Expo.
I have installed Mandrake 8.1 on it and am pulling down the updates at the
moment.
My question is this:
What do you put on an Itanium workstation with 8Gb RAM to make it look good
:-).
It has a Geforce Quadro2 Graphics card, but I only have a 17" monitor for
it.
David.
